Never did I think I’d go to Africa but that was one of the big draws of this cruise! Tunisia is at the tippy top of Africa and a big cruise port. We decided to do an excursion through the cruise line here because I was unsure of the best way to get around and what we should do in this area. I was glad we decided on the excursion here because our boat ported quite far from any of the areas we would have wanted to go on our own so the shuttle bus through the cruise line was great transportation. On the excursion we were able to see ruins that were hundreds of years old and they took us to the main shopping area of Tunisia, which is the most popular place to go. The shopping area looked like what I imagine Greece to look like and had SO many shops packed into one area.

Some tips for the shopping area:

-You can barter as much as you want with any of the shop owners. Everyone does it and it was highly suggested by our bus driver. We aren’t great at bartering but we did it a bit. For example, one of the shops started at 50 Euros for one bracelet and we walked out of there with 3 bracelets for 20 Euro. I still think we paid too much but I had reached my bartering limit.
-They say you need cash for most of the vendors, which was mostly true, but we did find a few that took card. Make sure you ask before you start bartering or pick out your items.
-Many of the vendors were selling the same items so I would also say if you have time, you should check prices at several different vendors before deciding where to buy from.
-Walk through the market up the hill, all the way to the end, and you’ll get to a beautiful overlook of the water. This is a great spot to take pictures!
Overall we loved our time in Tunisia! It had very different terrain than the other areas we’d be to so it would fun to see that variety. I’m very glad that was included in our cruise!
